ATHENS - July 3, 2014 -Lace Up for Kids, sponsored by Wendy’s, Athens County Children Services, Power 105-WXTQ-FM, and are proud to announce their 16th year of helping to provide the children of Athens County with shoes for the upcoming school year. Over 300 Athens County children are expected to go back to school with new shoes this year as a result of this program.
The local Athens Wendy’s restaurants, Athens County Children Services and Power 105-WXTQ-FM, are asking members of the community to help out by purchasing a new pair of tennis shoes of any size and dropping them off at the Wendy’s locations on Richland Ave, Court St, or on East State St, or at Athens County Children Services located at 18 Stonybrook Drive in Athens.
“This project has always been one that our community really champions, and it is great to see the creative ways people find to get involved to support children and families”, said Robin Webb, Public Information Officer for Athens County Children Services. “Earlier this year The Athens Bando & Kick Boxing Club sponsored a 5K benefitting this project”, she added. “That support will go a long way towards sending kids back to school with adequate athletic shoes.”
Applications for families to receive shoes for the upcoming school year will be available in building 18 at Athens County Children Services starting July 8th through July 30th between the hours of 9am and 4pm. Children must be between the ages of 5 and 14, and families must be residents of Athens County to qualify. The shoes will be collected through August 1st and will be distributed to the families on August 12th at The Plains Elementary School.
