ATHENS – Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Recruiter for Athens County Children Services, Brooke Schroeder, was presented the Outstanding Adoption Story Award by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption at their National Summit held in Columbus on May 20th of this year.

“Wendy’s Wonderful Kids (WWK) is an evidenced based model that uses child-focused recruitment to find adoptive homes for youth who may otherwise linger in foster care”, said Children Services Executive Director, Cathy Hill. “Focusing on older youth, sibling groups, and youth with special needs children with a WWK Recruiter are up to 300 percent more likely to get adopted”, added Hill.

As of May 2014, Wendy’s Wonderful Kids has finalized more than 4,200 adoptions and has served more than 10,900 children nationwide.

The WWK Summit brought together Wendy’s Wonderful Kids recruiters and supervisors from all over United States and Canada to discuss and collaborate on issues related to adoption and finding forever families for the more than 130,000 children in North America’s foster care systems who are waiting to be adopted.

Schroeder was selected from nearly 200 recruiters across the country for her outstanding work placing a sibling group in a forever home.

“Not only did Brooke develop our WWK program to meet the needs of seven different counties, but she got to know the kids on her caseload, doing extensive research and making contacts based off of those results, and conducting individualized recruitment activities,” said Brittany Dodd, Adoption Supervisor. She added, “Her efforts resulted in several children re-establishing contact with siblings and other relatives, and several adoptions, including foster parents who had not previously been approached about adopting the children in their home.”

Schroeder has been employed with Athens County Children Services for seven years and has been serving a seven-county region as the Wendy’s Wonderful Kids recruiter for almost two.
