National Adoption Month
Each November, we celebrate National Adoption Awareness Month to focus attention on the increasing numbers of children waiting to be adopted. These children desperately need families of their own. Because the public is often unaware of these children and their needs, we would like to draw special attention to these waiting children during Adoption Awareness Month in the hope that we can unite many of these young people with permanent, adoptive parents.
Adoption has changed significantly over the past 30 years. You do not have to be married, have children, be rich, or own a house to adopt a child. You do have to provide a stable, loving home, and be able to help your adopted child work through issues raised by his or her past. At Athens County Children Services, we remind you that there is no such thing as an "unadoptable" child.
Here in Athens County, approximately 120 children live in some type of foster care setting. Of these children, 25 will never return to their birth families. They need someone like you to step forward and be a support for them in their lives. Please give them a home and a happy childhood.
