Family Services
In 2010, family service's units at Athens County Children Services worked with approximately 134 families. Of the children they worked with: 143 children were in custody, 107 children with a Protective Service order issued by the court, and 44 children were in a kinship placement.
When families have been identified as being in need of services, they are assigned to a caseworker from one of our family services units.
The caseworker works with the family and community to help mobilize the resources required to strengthen the family unit. Every effort is made to help the family make positive changes in order to ensure the children remain in a safe environment.
If a child's safety is compromised, Juvenile Court may order the child's removal from the home. When that occurs, actions are taken to reduce the risk of harm so the child may be able to return home.
