Celebrating Families Fun for All

Athens County Children Services held its annual Celebrating Families event at the University Mall, E. State Street, Athens, Ohio.

The Celebrating Families event is Athens County Children Services’ annual kick-off to November’s National Adoption Awareness Month. The purpose of Adoption Awareness Month is to focus attention on the increasing numbers of children in the child welfare system waiting to be adopted. During November, States, communities, public and private organizations, businesses, families, and individuals will celebrate adoption as a positive way to build families.

"There are many children who desperately need families of their own, Celebrating Families is a special way to draw attention to these children during National Adoption Awareness Month, as well as creating a fun atmosphere for everyone who participates in the celebration."

The goal of Celebrating Families is to create a fun and enjoyable afternoon for children and families to share. Over thirty local agencies will be providing information concerning issues facing children, as well as entertaining activities targeting children and family participation. Scheduled events were the Columbus Zoo, Mark Wood Fun Show, Little People's Hospital, Ted D Bear, Rockin' Reggie, and many local agency activities.

The occasion allowed agencies to demonstrate their advocacy roles at a well-publicized function. Those interested in participating in next years Celebrating Families are encouraged to contact Andy Ellinger at Athens County Children Services, 592-3061 Ext. 306 for more information.
