Highlight Heritage Health Fair and Parade of the Hills
The Osteopathic Heritage Foundation of Nelsonville, Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville, and Athens County Children Services held the fourth annual Heritage Health Fair to kick off the Parade of the Hills at the Nelsonville Public Square, on Wednesday, August 24, 2005. In addition to enjoying the parades, music, carnival midway, fair food, and regional art at the Parade of the Hills, visitors to the Heritage Health Fair had the opportunity to accept giveaways and receive valuable information from many local organizations regarding an array of services for children and families in the surrounding areas. "Thousands of people visit the Parade of the Hills every year." said Andrea Reik, Interim Executive Director for Athens County Children Services, "The Heritage Health Fair will provide an excellent opportunity for these guests to learn more about the number and types of local services available to them." Guests will have a chance to learn about services and programs available such as Athens County 911, Biolife Plasma Services, and Help Me Grow, plus many, many more. Activities at this year's Heritage Health Fair include blood drives, child safety tips, CPR demonstrations, vision screening, immunization information, exercise program information, and more. Admission was free and open to everyone. In addition to the Heritage Health Fair, Children Services participated in both the Welcome Home and Grande Parades at this year's Parade of the Hills. The Welcom Home Parade kicks off the Parade of the Hills each year and Saturday's Grande Parade features over 275 Units, featuring artistic floats like the Children Services/Nelsonville Family Center Candyland float, marching bands, area businesses, and fraternal organizations. This parade is the pinnacle of Festival Week and highlights the creativity and imaginative abilities of all involved.
