More children than ever receive help from Santa Tree
December 9, 2010As the holiday season comes into full swing, Athens County Children Services and the Market on State are pleased to sponsor the 23rd Annual Santa Tree Christmas Project. This project provided gifts to nearly 1200 children in Athens County in 2009, and is needed to meet the requests of over1400 children this year. The children involved with the Santa Tree are children in your own neighborhood who have been abused or neglected. Other children on the tree come from families where parents struggle to make ends meet.
The Santa Tree, whose ornaments display the name, age, and several gift requests of a child, is currently on display at the Market on State. Community members are encouraged to pick up ornaments from the tree until the December 13 deadline. This project relies solely on the generosity of the public, and everyone is invited to pick a name from the tree to give a local child the opportunity to have a memorable and happy holiday.
In addition to the tree at the Market on State, there is a Santa Tree located at Freed Chiropractic. Community members are welcome to stop in and choose an ornament.
With only days left in the project, there are still dozens of children who remain on the Santa Trees. Athens County Children Services would like to encourage you to stop by one of these businesses and choose a child from the tree.
