Rotary and Kiwanis assist With Lace Up
August 10, 2009Lace Up for Kids is again seeking to provide hundreds of Athens County children with new shoes to start out the school year. The program, sponsored by Wendy’s, Athens County Children Services, and Power 105 is in its 11th year.
Lace Up for Kids is being supported in part by the generosity of two local volunteer organizations, Athens Noon Rotary Club with a $1000 gift and The Kiwanis Club of Athens with a $500 gift. Without the support of these organizations, a program like Lace Up For Kids would not be possible.
The money donated to the Lace Up For Kids will go to the purchase of new athletic shoes for hundreds of children in Athens County. Businesses and individuals may join these organizations by making either a monetary gift to the Lace Up For Kids program or buy purchasing a pair of new athletic shoes and dropping them off at any Athens-area Wendy’s location. Donations for Lace Up For Kids will be accepted at Athens Wendy’s locations and Power 105 until Friday, August 14.
Lace Up For Kids will culminate on August 18 when Athens County families who have filled out an application and met qualification guidelines will receive their shoes at The Plains Elementary.
